Resumo: | Information literacy is an important process to make individuals aware of the stages of selection, access and consumption of information. Furthermore, media literacy is linked to the previous one, as it concerns the ability to select and appropriate the type of information found in the virtual environment, mainly the information shared on social media. In this context, if informationally and media literate, subjects are able to develop informational competence, knowledge that proposes autonomy for the user in terms of their ability to research and acquire only the information that is relevant to them. The librarian plays an important role in these processes, due to his ability to mediate information. The general objective of the research is to discuss about informational and media literacy and informational competence and what is the librarian's collaboration in these processes. This theoretical essay is classified as a descriptive, bibliographical, qualitative and theoretical-analytical research, as it seeks to discuss different definitions and views of authors who contribute to the themes raised through the non-systemic review of the literature. It is concluded that the processes of informational and media literacy and informational competence are important phenomena for the creation of an informationally autonomous society aware of its impact in the virtual field, instructing it to use social media in a more autonomous way. Thus, the librarian is also a fundamental figure in this context, since mediation is one of the primary functions of the professional and a necessary skill for teaching literacies. |

Thus, the librarian is also a fundamental figure in this context, since mediation is one of the primary functions of the professional and a necessary skill for teaching literacies.O letramento informacional é um processo importante para conscientizar sujeitos nas etapas de seleção, acesso e consumo da informação. Editora e Gráfica da FURG - EDGRAF2024-01-25info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionAvaliado por paresapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.furg.br/biblos/article/view/1618910.14295/biblos.v37i2.16189BIBLOS; Vol. 37 No. 2 (2023): Especial II Diálogo Sobre Bibliotecas (In)formadoras ; 114-127BIBLOS; v. 37 n. 2 (2023): Especial II Diálogo Sobre Bibliotecas (In)formadoras ; 114-1272236-75940102-4388reponame:Biblos (Rio Grande.
