Resumo: This article aims to describe an experience developed in an elective curricular component called Sustainability in the Cultivate Project that had in its syllabus the planning and construction of a hydroponic garden, a traditional garden and a composter. Participated in this experience 32 students from third year high schools of São Paulo state. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this experience happened in two stages: before and during the pandemic. In the classroom, the planting of seedlings and the construction of the hydroponic garden were planned and executed by the students, and at that moment some issues related to the environmental and health issues were discussed. In the remote class, students were encouraged to build vegetable gardens in their homes and to grow plants. The results indicated that, despite the short time provided for the class activities, the students became so involved with the Elective that they were interested in continuing the gardening and planting activities in their homes with their parents.
