Pollen grains and spore diversity of grasslands in the Southern of Brazil: morphological descriptions and paleoecological implications

Resumo: Morphological descriptions and illustrations of pollen grains and spores of 70 species occurring in the “Pampa” and “Mata Atlântica” biomes are presented. The aim of this investigation was to show the pollen grain diversity in different biomes composing the southern razilian grasslands. Eight collection points were selected in the states of Rio Grande do Sul State and Santa Catarina State. The species analysed are distributed in 67 genera and 42 families. Pollen descriptions of 25 species are unpublished in the Santa Catarina State and morphological descriptions of 15 species are unpublished for Rio Grande do Sul State. The morphological descriptions were associated to vegetation and altitude of species. The results allow a comparison between the pollen grains dispersed in quaternary and superfi cial sediments. The pollen grains allied with the vegetation formations assists in environmental reconstructions.

Foram selecionados oito pontos de coleta nos estados do Rio Grande do Sul e de Santa Catarina. As espécies analisadas estão distribuídas em 67 gêneros e 42 famílias sendo 25 descrições polínicas inéditas para Santa Catarina e 15 para o Rio Grande do Sul. As descrições morfológicas foram associadas, sempre que possível, às ocorrências vegetacionais e altitudinais de cada espécie. Os resultados obtidos permitem a comparação com os grãos de pólen dispersos em sedimentos atuais e quaternários que aliado às formações vegetacionais aqui apresentadadas auxiliam nas reconstituições ambientais.Iheringia.
