Resumo: O livro de David J. McCreery The Sweat of Their Brow: A History of Work in Latin America é corajoso e inovador. A pesquisa histórica sobre esse tema passou por uma grande expansão nas últimas duas décadas, mas, a sua maioria, na forma de estudos monográficos. Em conjunto, os inúmeros estudos sobre regiões específicas, períodos históricos e categorias de trabalhadores contribuíram para grandes mudanças nas abordagens teóricas e metodológicas e enriqueceram o conhecimento empírico, engendrando novos temas e questões.
