Uso terapêutico da cannabis em Odontologia no tratamento da dor orofacial: revisão de literatura integrativa

Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: Cannabis sativa is a plant rich in several cannabinoids, some of which have great therapeutic applicability. In dentistry, with appropriate indication, professionals are supported to use it in their pharmacological routine, for various therapies, providing significant improvements to patients during the treatment of orofacial pain. OBJECTIVE: To highlight the importance that Cannabis-based medicines can provide to patients suffering from orofacial pain during dental treatments and to highlight the importance of dentist knowledge about the application of Cannabis during treatments for orofacial pain. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative literature review, in which 05 articles published in the Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS) and Scielo databases were used. Inclusion criteria: articles in english, portuguese and spanish, published between 2019 and 2024. Exclusion criteria: theses, dissertations, undergraduate thesis and annals. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: There were 16 articles is found and based on the application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 05 articles were chosen. In treatment of orofacial pain, which can be acute or chronic, require intervention by the dental surgeon. Medicinal cannabis is already considered an important therapeutic option, as scientific evidence highlights the treatment of chronic orofacial pain, thus proving excellent results. It is important that the professional knows the correct indication and dosage to direct the treatment individually according to the needs of each patient. CONCLUSION: Orofacial pain is among the most common situations in dental care, and the use of cannabis proves to be an important ally in the treatment of these discomforts, being able to enhance the action of medications already used in these treatments, or even replacing them. However, there is a need for more studies to prove the safety of its use. |

No âmbito da odontologia, com indicação adequada, os profissionais estão respaldados a utilizarem na rotina farmacológica, para diversas terapias, proporcionando melhorias significativas aos pacientes durante o tratamento da dor orofacial. OBJETIVO: Evidenciar a importância que os medicamentos à base da Cannabis podem proporcionar aos pacientes que sofrem de dor orofacial durante os tratamentos odontológicos e ressaltar a importância do conhecimento do cirurgião-dentista sobre a aplicação da Cannabis durante os tratamentos das dores orofaciais. METODOLOGIA: Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura do tipo integrativa, na qual foram utilizados 05 artigos publicados nas bases de dados Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS) e Scielo. Os critérios de inclusão foram artigos nas línguas inglesa, portuguesa e espanhola, publicados entre os anos de 2019 e 2024. Os critérios de exclusão foram teses, dissertações, trabalhos de conclusão de curso e anais. RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: Foram encontrados 16 artigos e a partir da aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, elegeram-se 05 artigos. Uma das principais situações que necessitam de intervenção por parte do cirurgião-dentista é o tratamento da dor orofacial, que pode se apresentar em forma aguda ou crônica. A cannabis medicinal já é considerada uma importante opção terapêutica, pois as evidências científicas mostram destaque para o tratamento da dor orofacial crônica, comprovando assim ótimos resultados. É importante que o profissional conheça a correta indicação e dosagem para direcionar o tratamento de forma individualizada de acordo com a necessidade de cada paciente. CONCLUSÃO: As dores orofaciais estão entre as situações mais corriqueiras em atendimento odontológico, e o uso da cannabis tem se morstrado eficaz podendo potencializar a ação dos medicamentos já utilizados nesses tratamentos, ou até mesmo substituí-los-os.
