Resumo: Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It mainly affects the skin, peripheral nerves, mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, and eyes. Leprosy is one of the oldest diseases known to humanity and, despite advances in its treatment, still represents a public health challenge in various parts of the world, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. This ecological study aims to analyze the incidence of new cases of the disease in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, and Espírito Santo, between the years 2018 and 2023. For this purpose, data from the Notification of Diseases Information System (SINAN) of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) were used for tabulation and analysis of the disease's behavior in the region. The analysis will encompass not only the absolute number of cases but also the incidence rate and prevalence per 100,000 inhabitants, allowing for a more precise comparison between the states analyzed. Additionally, sociodemographic characteristics of patients, such as age and race/ethnicity, will be explored to identify groups at greater vulnerability to the disease. Thus, this study aims to understand the geographical and temporal distribution of leprosy in the southeast region during the evaluated period, as well as to identify possible factors associated with the increase or decrease in cases.

Specialized Dentistry Group2024-04-18info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/195410.36557/2674-8169.2024v6n4p1752-1765Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 No. 4 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3 - IMPACT FACTOR SJIF 5.807; 1752-1765Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 Núm. 4 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3 - FATOR DE IMPACTO SJIF 5.807; 1752-1765Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 6 n. 4 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3 - FATOR DE IMPACTO SJIF 5.807; 1752-17652674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1954/2171Copyright (c) 2024 Robson Salaroli, Marcos Flávio Spínola Ambrósio , Daniel Batista Monte Alto do Vale Lordão, Lorena Louise Botelho de Aguiar , Thais Caroline Botelho de Aguiar , Fernanda Campolina Alves Silva , Glauber Pablo Soriano de Carvalho Filho , Beatriz Montezano Oliveira Agostini , Leonardo Ricardo Soares , Lívia Deziré Martins , Letícia Deziré Martins , Larissa Pereira Rezende https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSalaroli, RobsonAmbrósio , Marcos Flávio SpínolaLordão, Daniel Batista Monte Alto do Vale Aguiar , Lorena Louise Botelho deAguiar , Thais Caroline Botelho deSilva , Fernanda Campolina AlvesFilho , Glauber Pablo Soriano de Carvalho Agostini , Beatriz Montezano OliveiraSoares , Leonardo RicardoMartins , Lívia DeziréMartins , Letícia Deziré Rezende , Larissa Pereira2024-04-18T23:12:27Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1954Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2024-04-18T23:12:27Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
