Resumo: | Down Syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder characterized by trisomy 21; This condition causes disturbances in motor and cognitive development, typical physical characteristics and intellectual disability. Objective: To verify the influence of using swings, as a therapeutic resource, on the acquisition of the quadrupedal position in babies with DS. Methods: The present study is characterized as a case study, exploratory, descriptive and interventional with a quantitative approach. Three children with DS (C1, C2 and C3) participated, with an average age of 18 months, attended at the physiotherapy teaching clinic at the University of Vale do Taquari-Univates/Lajeado/RS. The Millani Comparetti (MC) protocol was used as an evaluation instrument. Ten sessions were carried out and, firstly, co-contraction and sliding tapping techniques were carried out on the joints and general muscles to activate muscle tone and soon after the child was positioned on the swing, in the quadruped position, with the help of the researcher. Results: According to the MC protocol, the children were classified in the assessment in the 3rd trimester of motor development and, in the reassessment, after 10 sessions of using the swing, they progressed to the 4th trimester, with C1 acquiring the quadruped position in the 9th session , C2 in 10th and C3 in 6th. Conclusion: The swing proved to be a facilitating tool for acquiring the quadrupedal position in babies with DS. The anteroposterior movement performed by the swing requires the child to symmetrically distribute body weight between the four limbs, activate cervical and trunk control and balance against gravity. |

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-11-11info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/84810.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n5p2664-2680Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2664-2680Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2664-2680Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2664-26802674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/848/981Copyright (c) 2023 Mariana Moraes Arenhart, Magali Quevedo Grave, Lydia Koetz Jaeger, Lucas Capalonga, Tania Crisitina Fleighttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessArenhart, Mariana MoraesGrave, Magali QuevedoJaeger, Lydia KoetzCapalonga, LucasFleig, Tania Cristina2023-11-14T12:42:20Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/848Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-11-14T12:42:20Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false |
