Resumo: Prenatal and postpartum care play a fundamental role in promoting maternal and child health, contributing to the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. In this context, nursing plays a crucial role, providing holistic and evidence-based care for pregnant women and postpartum women in various contexts of community health. This article aims to analyze the role of nursing in prenatal and postpartum care in community health, highlighting its importance, intervention methods, achieved results, and challenges faced. To achieve this objective, a literature review of scientific literature related to the role of nursing in prenatal and postpartum care in community health was conducted. Databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and SciELO were consulted, using keywords related to the topic, such as "nursing," "prenatal care," "postpartum period," and "community health." These interventions have been associated with positive outcomes, such as reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, increasing access to healthcare, and improving the quality of maternal and child care. To achieve its full potential, investment in professional training, adequate infrastructure, and health policies aimed at improving access and quality of maternal and child health services is necessary. By strengthening the role of nursing in this context, it is possible to advance in reducing health inequalities and promoting the well-being of women and children in communities worldwide.
