Resumo: The objective of this study was to analyze the role of nurses in promoting and preventing the health of the elderly. An integrative review was conducted using scientific databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), National Health Library (BVS) and the Natural Library of Medicine (PUBMED). Inclusion criteria were: available full articles, national and international articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish, and published from 2017 to 2021. The exclusion criteria filtered articles published before 2017, incompatible with the theme of the study and publications of repeated articles in the databases. 16 papers composed this integrative review. The results highlight the importance of professional training, as well as awareness with what is proper of this phase of life. Nursing plays an important role in health promotion and prevention for the elderly, being a key factor to influence the quality of life of this population.

Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa através de bases de dados cientificas: Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO), Biblioteca Nacional em Saúde (BVS) e o Natural Library of Medicine (PUBMED). Os critérios de inclusão foram: artigos disponíveis e completos, artigos nacionais e internacionais com publicação em idiomas português, inglês e espanhol, e pulicados no período de 2017 a 2021. Os critérios de exclusão filtraram artigos publicados antes de 2017, incompatíveis com o tema do estudo e publicações de artigos repetidos nas bases de dados. Dezesseis trabalhos compuseram essa revisão integrativa. Os resultados destacam a importância da capacitação profissional, bem como a sensibilização com o que é próprio dessa fase da vida.
