Shared work among the NASF-AB, managers, and reference teams: implications for matrix practice

Matrix support aims to shift the power of corporations away from specialists, drawing attention to the strength of interdisciplinary team management. Thus, the way in which shared work is established is a fundamental part of the matrix practice. This article aims to analyze the perception of the Expanded Nucleus of Family Health and Basic Care (NASF-AB) on the relationships established between supporters, reference teams, and managers, and how they impact the work process. It is, therefore, a case study, with a qualitative approach, carried out with 11 professionals from the NASF-AB with semi-structured interviews and field observation. For data treatment, content analysis was performed, in which two thematic categories emerged: (1) shared work between NASF-AB and reference teams, exposing a resistance of the teams in conceiving the NASF-AB as a member of primary care, as well as difficulties in planning and developing joint actions and a lack of knowledge of the contributions of matrix practice to the work process; (2) shared work between NASF-AB and management, pointing to the lack of support for the nucleus, impasses in communication, absence of collaborative work spaces, and pressures for productivity. Therefore, we note that the NASF-AB faces conflicting issues arising from shared work, which influence the operationalization of matrix practice.
