SATISFACTION OF USERS AND COMPANIONS WITH THE BRAZILIAN PUBLIC HOSPITAL CARE

Resumo: The evaluation of user satisfaction with the quality of health services has become an essential practice. In this sense, our work sought to evaluate the satisfaction of users and accompanying persons with the quality of care in public hospitals in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. An exploratory and descriptive case study with a qualitative approach, based on the use of the IRaMuTeQ software and the Bardin content analysis, was conducted in four public hospitals of the state. The interviews of 46 users and accompanying persons originated six categories: Negative Aspects; Inefficiencies; The burden of hospitalization; Rights, duties and standards; Public service recommendation; and Positive Aspects. The results of our study showed that users and accompanying persons were generally satisfied with the care provided by public hospitals within the Unified Health System, especially regarding aspects related to the humanization of health teams and the effectiveness of the process care. Respondents also raised negative aspects that affect the quality of care, such as the conditions of the facilities, the lack or insufficiency of material resources and bureaucracies that delay the therapeutic path. We hope that the findings of our study contribute to the debate about the quality of care of Brazilian public hospitals. We also stress the need for further studies with this perspective.

El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la satisfacción de usuarios y acompañantes con la calidad de la atención de hospitales públicos de Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil. Para ello, se realizó un estudio de caso, de carácter exploratorio y descriptivo, con abordaje cualitativo, fundamentado en la utilización del software IRaMuTeQ y en el análisis de contenido de Bardin, en cuatro hospitales públicos en el estado de Rio Grande do Norte. De las 46 entrevistas de usuarios y acompañantes, emergieron seis categorías: aspectos negativos; ineficiencias; carga de la internación; derechos, deberes y normas; recomendación del servicio público; y aspectos positivos. Los resultados de este estudio revelaron que los usuarios y acompañantes se mostraron, en general, satisfechos con la atención prestada por hospitales públicos en el ámbito del Sistema Único de Salud, especialmente en cuanto a la humanización de los equipos de salud y a la efectividad del proceso asistencial. Los entrevistados también plantearon aspectos considerados negativos que afectan la calidad de la atención, tales como las condiciones de las instalaciones físicas, la falta o insuficiencia de recursos materiales y burocracias que retrasan el recorrido terapéutico. Se espera que los hallazgos de este estudio contribuyan al debate sobre la calidad de la atención de los hospitales públicos brasileños, destacándose también la necesidad de más estudios en esa perspectiva.A avaliação da satisfação de usuários sobre a qualidade dos serviços de saúde tornou-se prática essencial. Nesse sentido, este trabalho busca avaliar a satisfação de usuários e acompanhantes com a qualidade do atendimento de hospitais públicos do Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil. Para isso, realizou-se um estudo de caso, de caráter exploratório e descritivo, com abordagem qualitativa, fundamentado na utilização do software IRaMuTeQ e na análise de conteúdo de Bardin, em quatro hospitais públicos do estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Os entrevistados também levantaram aspectos considerados negativos que afetam a qualidade do atendimento, tais como as condições das instalações físicas, a falta ou insuficiência de recursos materiais e as burocracias que delongam o percurso terapêutico.
