Social media and the change in the eating behavior of adolescents

Resumo: | Introduction: In the last 20 years there has been an increase in the occurrence of eating disorders, among the most affected public, especially adolescents. With the advancement of technologies, and the popularization of social networks, these aesthetic influences have become even more pronounced and are constantly reinforced by the media and social network influencers. Objective: To investigate characteristics of eating disorders and eating behavior induced by the influence of social networks in adolescents in a state school. Materials and methods: The current work was carried out through the evaluation of data collected in a group of 97 adolescent students. Results: 42.3% of adolescents answered that they are connected from 3 to 5 hours and 21.6% usem the internet for more than 8 hours. 70.1% responded that they use electronic devices at mealtimes. The diets most accessed by young people were the detox diet (67%) and intermittent fasting (59.8%). Most of the young people analyzed (77.3%) are influenced by the media in their purchases, more than half (53.6%) have already regretted buying a product induced by the media. The main activity in free time was the use of internet and television (83.5%). Finally, 78.5% believe that the exclusion of carbohydrates in the diet leads to weight loss. Conclusion: There was a significant association between the number of hours that adolescents spend connected to having meals in front of screens. |

Con el avance de las tecnologías y la popularización de las redes sociales, estas influencias estéticas se han vuelto aún más pronunciadas y son constantemente reforzadas por los medios de comunicación y los influencers de las redes sociales. Objetivo: Investigar características de los trastornos alimentarios y de la conducta alimentaria inducidos por la influencia de las redes sociales en adolescentes de una escuela pública. Materiales y Métodos: El presente trabajo se realizó a través de la evaluación de datos recolectados en un grupo de 97 estudiantes adolescentes. Resultados: el 42,3% de los adolescentes respondieron que estaban conectados de 3 a 5 horas y el 21,6% usaban internet más de 8 horas. El 70,1% respondió que utiliza dispositivos electrónicos durante las comidas. Las dietas a las que más accedieron los jóvenes fueron la dieta detox (67%) y el ayuno intermitente (59,8%). La mayoría de los jóvenes analizados (77,3%) se ven influidos por los medios en sus compras, más de la mitad (53,6%) ya se han arrepentido de haber comprado algún producto inducido por los medios. La principal actividad en el tiempo libre fue el uso de internet y televisión (83,5%). Finalmente, el 78,5% cree que la exclusión de los hidratos de carbono de la dieta conduce a la pérdida de peso. Conclusión: Hubo asociación significativa entre la cantidad de horas que el adolescente pasa conectado a comer frente a las pantallas.Introduzione: Negli ultimi 20 anni c'è stato un aumento dell'insorgenza di disturbi alimentari, tra il pubblico più colpito, in particolare gli adolescenti. Con il progresso delle tecnologie e la divulgazione dei social network, queste influenze estetiche sono diventate ancora più pronunciate e sono costantemente rafforzate dai media e dagli influencer dei social network. Obiettivo: indagare le caratteristiche dei disturbi alimentari e del comportamento alimentare indotti dall'influenza delle reti sociali negli adolescenti in una scuola statale. Materiali e Metodi: Il presente lavoro è stato svolto attraverso la valutazione dei dati raccolti in un gruppo di 97 studenti adolescenti. Risultati: il 42,3% degli adolescenti ha risposto di essere connesso da 3 a 5 ore e il 21,6% ha utilizzato Internet per più di 8 ore. Il 70,1% ha risposto di utilizzare dispositivi elettronici durante i pasti. Le diete più seguite dai giovani sono state la dieta detox (67%) e il digiuno intermittente (59,8%). La maggior parte dei giovani analizzati (77,3%) è influenzata dai media nei propri acquisti, più della metà (53,6%) si è già pentita di aver acquistato un prodotto indotto dai media. L'attività principale nel tempo libero è stata l'utilizzo di Internet e della televisione (83,5%). Infine, il 78,5% ritiene che escludere i carboidrati dalla dieta porti alla perdita di peso. Conclusione: c'era un'associazione significativa tra il numero di ore che l'adolescente trascorre in relazione ai pasti davanti agli schermi.Introdução: Nos últimos 20 anos houve um aumento na ocorrência de transtornos alimentares, entre o público mais acometido, destacam-se adolescentes.
