Resumo: This paper aimed to analyze the fight and agrarian conflicts that occurred from 1970 to 1980 in the region of Bico do Papagaio, Tocantins State, Brazil. The Systematic Examination of this conflicted region was made by the exploratory and descriptive method for understanding the way how the conflicts occurred in this temporal and spatial period. The main results indicated that the conflicts in the region were the most violent in the history of the country. The Comissão Pastoral da Terra (The Land Pastoral Commission), linked to Catholic Church, was the main actor to support and fight for possession of the land in favor of small producers. In the 1990s, the terror scenario has given to way the strengthening of the social capital through the Rural Unions and Associations, local cooperatives, and implementation of public policies by the Federal and State Governments in this region under study region. However, the region of Bico do Papagaio has a long way to be covered for achieving an just economic and social development

O método aplicado foi o exame sistemático da referida região conflituosa, de forma exploratória e descritiva para compreender como ocorreram os conflitos nesse período temporal e espacial em questão. Os principais resultados sugerem que os conflitos na região foram os mais violentos da história do país. A Igreja e a Comissão Pastoral da Terra foram os principais atores a apoiar elutar pela posse da terra a favor dos pequenos produtores. Nos anos de 1990, o cenário de terror deu lugar ao fortalecimento do capital social por meio de sindicatos rurais e associações, cooperativas locais e pela implantação de políticas públicas pelo governo federal e estadual na região em estudo.
