The influence of diluents on the formation of porous structure in ion exchanger resins based on 2-vinylpyridine and divinylbenzene

Resumo: Ion-exchange resins based on 2-vinylpyridine and divinylbezene (DVB) were synthesized, in the presence of n-heptane and diethylphthalate as diluents, by suspension polymerization. The effects of type and content of these diluents and the DVB content on the development of porosity of the resins were studied. It was found that only in presence of n-heptane were porous resins produced. Characterization of the resins was carried out through determination of pore parameters (pore volume and pore size distribution), specific surface area, apparent density, swelling by solvents and micro-and macromorphology.
