The orientation challenges in the practice of Distance Scientific Initiation

his work aims to present the perceptions of teachers of a private university that act, in the Distance Education (DE) context, as guides of projects of Scientific Initiation (SI) mediated by technologies. Through the collection of information recorded as responses to a questionnaire, in a qualitative and quantitative approach, these subjects exposed: the resources that have at their disposal; the support they receive from the institution; the strategies for ensuring effective communication with their guided students; and mediation/orientation practices with a view to academic training geared to research. The results pointed out, in synthesis, that the technology, within the framework of SI, is presented as a “challenge”, since it requires the adoption of new methods by the teachers, as well as a “possibility”, by allowing the expansion of the domains of an essential activity for the development of undergraduate students.
