Resumo: Through literature review, this study aims to identify categories that contribute to analyze the present situation of students in Brazilian higher education. The relevance of this proposal is justified by its considerations on Brazilian education and contribution to discussions on curriculum reformulation in graduate courses. The study uses national indicators, though not ignoring international reality. At local level, it presents a proposal being implemented at UFF/camps. Results show that work, family, student assistance, in addition to the general characteristics of the student (socioeconomic background, profile, and relationship with the university, among others) are essential categories for the analysis of such reality.

A relevância desta proposta está em pensar a educação no Brasil e contribuir para os debates acerca da reformulação de currículos dos cursos de graduação. Para tanto, utiliza indicadores nacionais, não desconsiderando a realidade internacional. Já no âmbito local, apresenta uma proposta em operacionalização na UFF/Campos.
