Microbiological contamination in Smartphones

Resumo: Smartphones have become one of the most commonly used essential devices for daily communication. These devices are rarely disinfected, and contamination with various microbial agents may occur. Samples collected on smartphone touchscreens were analyzed to determine the counts of mesophilic aerobic bacteria, enterobacteria, molds and yeasts, total coliform bacteria and coliform bacteria at 45 °C. More than 70% of the analyzed apparatuses presented high contamination by aerophilic mesophilic bacteria and molds and yeasts, besides 25% by enterobacteria, being observed the presence of coliforms at 45 °C in 25% of the evaluated apparatus. The high contamination by aerobic mesophiles and molds and yeasts and the presence of coliform enterobacteria and bacteria at 45 °C suggest a health risk to users due to the possible presence of pathogenic organisms.

Raramente estos dispositivos son desinfectados, pudiendo ocurrir contaminación con varios agentes microbianos. Las muestras recogidas en las pantallas táctiles de smartphones se analizaron para determinar el conteo de bacterias aerobias mesofílicas, enterobacterias, mohos y levaduras, bacterias coliformes totales y bacterias coliformes a 45 °C. Más del 70% de los aparatos analizados presentaron una contaminación elevada por bacterias mesófilas aerofílicas y mohos y levaduras, además del 25% por enterobacterias. En el 25% de los aparatos analizados se observó la presencia de coliformes a 45 °C. La elevada contaminación por mesófilos aerobios y mohos y levaduras y la presencia de enterobacterias y bacterias coliformes a 45 ° C sugieren un riesgo para la salud de los usuarios debido a la posible presencia de organismos patógenos.Smartphones tornaram-se um dos dispositivos essenciais mais utilizados para a comunicação diária. Raramente esses dispositivos são desinfetados, podendo ocorrer contaminação com vários agentes microbianos. Amostras coletadas nas telas touch screen de smartphones foram analisadas para determinar a contagem de bactérias aeróbias mesofílicas, enterobactérias, bolores e leveduras, bactérias coliformes totais e bactérias coliformes a 45 °C. Mais de 70% dos aparelhos analisados apresentaram contaminação elevada por bactérias mesófilas aerofílicas e bolores e leveduras, além de 25% por enterobactérias, sendo observada a presença de coliformes a 45 °C em 25% dos aparelhos avaliados.
