Interculturality and Education: addressing Indigenous Themes in Basic Education

Resumo: The debate on cultural diversity has been one of the main topics of discussion in the field of education. Law 11.645 / 2008 establishes as mandatory the inclusion of the theme "Afro-Brazilian and indigenous history and culture" in the National Education Guidelines Law of 1996 (LDB 9394 / 96) and in the official curriculum of the educational network. This implies the need to address the issue in the teaching and curriculum of basic education, which covers elementary and secondary education. In this sense, the present study seeks to reflect on the importance of education in the intercultural perspective, facing the presence of different peoples, social groups and cultures in the school context. Faced with this, we are challenged to think how important it is that educational processes work in the perspective of valuing these social groups, their different customs and their ways of being in the world. Starting off this premise, and seeking to contemplate also the aforementioned law, we propose possibilities of working contents that value the indigenous culture and the reality of the students.

La Ley 11.645 / 2008 establece la obligatoriedad de la inclusión de la temática "Historia y cultura afro-brasileña e indígena" en las directrices y bases de la educación nacional, así como en el currículo oficial de la red de enseñanza. Esto implica la necesidad de abordar la temática en cuestión en la enseñanza y en el currículo de la educación básica, que abarca la enseñanza fundamental y media. En este sentido, el presente estudio busca reflexionar sobre la importancia de la educación en la perspectiva intercultural, frente a la presencia de los diferentes pueblos, grupos sociales y culturas en el contexto escolar. Frente a ello, se nos desafía a pensar lo importante que los procesos educativos trabajen en la perspectiva de valorar estos grupos sociales, sus diferentes costumbres y el modo de ser y estar en el mundo. A partir de esa premisa, y buscando contemplar también la ley arriba citada, proponemos posibilidades de trabajar contenidos que valoran la cultura indígena y la realidad de los educandos.    O debate sobre a diversidade cultural tem sido um dos principais temas de discussão no âmbito da educação. A Lei 11.645/2008 estabelece nas diretrizes e bases da educação nacional a inclusão, no currículo oficial da rede de ensino, da obrigatoriedade da temática “História e cultura afro-brasileira e indígena”. Isso implica a necessidade de abordar a temática em questão no ensino e no currículo da educação básica, que abrange o ensino fundamental e médio. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo busca refletir sobre a importância da educação na perspectiva intercultural diante da presença dos diferentes povos, grupos sociais e culturas no contexto escolar. Diante disso, somos desafiados a pensar o quanto é importante que os processos educativos trabalhem na perspectiva de valorizar esses grupos sociais, seus diferentes costumes e seu modo próprio de ser e estar no mundo.
