KNOWLEDGE ON SOILS BY STUDENTS OF AGRONOMIC ENGINEERING IN THE TOCANTINS

Resumo: The article aimed to investigate prior knowledge on soils from 3rd-year graduate students of Agronomic Engineering courses at two universities in the Tocantins. The survey was carried out in an ordinary first-day soil class from 2016 to 2019. The answers were categorized by theme/subject similarities and analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. In general, the students observe key-concept ideas from soil science, despite simplifications. For these students, the soil is important and can be used for various purposes, such as food production. However, we found that most of these students do not know the soil, simplifying its composition and representing it superficially. It reinforces the need for improving soil education since it is an essential component of the environment.

It reinforces the need for improving soil education since it is an essential component of the environment.El artículo tuvo como objetivo investigar conocimientos previos sobre el tema de suelos con estudiantes del tercer semestre de pregrado de Ingeniería Agronómica en dos universidades de Tocantins. La actividad se llevó a cabo el primer día de clases de la asignatura de suelos, de 2016 a 2019. Las respuestas se categorizaron por similitudes tema / asignatura y se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva y de contenido. En general, los conceptos de suelo dados por los estudiantes corroboran conceptos clave en el área, aunque sea de forma simplificada. Para estos estudiantes, el suelo es importante y se puede utilizar para diversas actividades, como por ejemplo la producción de alimentos. Sin embargo, encontramos que estos estudiantes, en su mayoría, desconocen el suelo, simplificando su composición y representándolo de manera superficial, lo que refuerza la necesidad de incrementar su aprendizaje del tema, considerando que el suelo es un componente esencial de su entorno profesional.O artigo teve como objetivo averiguar o conhecimento prévio sobre o tema solos com estudantes do 3º período dos cursos de Engenharia Agronômica de duas universidades do Tocantins. A atividade foi realizada em sala de aula no primeiro dia das disciplinas de solos, durante os anos de 2016 a 2019. As respostas foram categorizadas por similaridades de tema/assunto e analisadas com o uso da estatística descritiva e de conteúdo. De forma geral, as conceituações de solos dadas pelos estudantes corroboram conceitos chaves da área, mesmo que de forma simplificada. Para esses estudantes, o solo é importante e pode ser utilizado para diversas atividades como, por exemplo, produção alimentar.
