Retention in two Technical Courses Integrated to High School at the Federal Institute of São Paulo

Resumo: | Abstract: In this study, we analyze the phenomenon of school retention in two technical courses in computer science integrated into high school located on different campuses of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of São Paulo. The subject in question raises an important problem that involves the expansion of the modality of technical and professional education in high school throughout the country. This article uses a quantitative-qualitative approach, with a temporal cut that covers the years 2016 to 2018. The study allowed us to identify, corroborating the results of other researches, that retention rates are higher in the 1st years of the courses, which is also in agreement with official data from the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira. In addition, in the time frame investigated, retention rates on campuses have decreased over the years, which also converges with the same official data. In the case of the analyzed courses, this decrease may be related to preventive and interventional actions carried out by professors and the technical-pedagogical team. The study also showed that the causes of retention are related to a fragile process of schooling in elementary school, which makes it difficult for the student to adapt to the professional and technological modality and to the integrated, full-time model. Federal Institute of São Paulo.En este estudio, analizamos el fenómeno de la retención escolar en dos cursos técnicos en informática integrado a la enseñanza media ubicados en diferentes campus del Instituto Federal de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología de São Paulo. El tema en mención plantea un problema importante que implica la expansión de la modalidad de educación técnica y profesional en bachillerato en todo el país. Este artículo utiliza un enfoque cuantitativo-cualitativo, con un corte temporal que abarca los años 2016 a 2018. El estudio permitió identificar, corroborando los resultados de otras investigaciones, que las tasas de retención son mayores en los primeros años de las carreras, lo cual es también de acuerdo con datos oficiales del Instituto Nacional de Estudios e Investigaciones Educativas Anísio Teixeira. Además, en el marco temporal investigado, las tasas de permanencia en los campus han disminuido a lo largo de los años, lo que también converge con el mismo dato oficial. En el caso de los cursos analizados, esta disminución puede estar relacionada con acciones preventivas e intervencionistas realizadas por los profesores y el equipo técnico-pedagógico. El estudio también mostró que las causas de la retención están relacionadas con un frágil proceso de escolarización en la enseñanza básica, lo que dificulta la adaptación del estudiante a la modalidad profesional y tecnológica y al modelo integrado de tiempo completo.Resumo: Este estudo investiga o fenômeno da retenção escolar em dois cursos técnicos de Informática integrados ao ensino médio localizados em diferentes campi do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo. A temática em questão suscita uma importante problemática que envolve a expansão da modalidade de ensino técnico e profissional em nível médio por todo o país. Este artigo utiliza-se da abordagem qualiquantitativa, com recorte temporal que abrange os anos de 2016 a 2018. O estudo permitiu identificar, corroborando resultados de outras pesquisas, que as taxas de retenção se apresentam mais elevadas no 1º ano dos cursos, o que é igualmente convergente com os dados oficiais do Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira. Além disso, no período considerado, as taxas de retenção nos campi investigados foram decrescentes no decorrer dos anos, o que também converge com os mesmos dados oficiais. No caso dos cursos analisados, esse decréscimo pode se relacionar às ações preventivas e interventivas realizadas por docentes e equipe técnico-pedagógica. O estudo evidenciou ainda que as causas da retenção se relacionam com um frágil processo de escolarização no ensino fundamental, o que se configura como dificultador da adaptação do estudante à modalidade profissional e tecnológica, e ao modelo integrado e em tempo integral.
