Resumo: The studies of several groups of epidemiologists on the effects of low doses of radiation to the whole body is presented. The results of such studies show that the radiation effects in man can be represented graphicaly in three differents manners: linear, supralinear and infralinear, when a direct relationship between dose and development of cancer is considered. The author offers a brief review of the carcinogenic effects of medical applications of ionizing radiation since the beginning of this century.

Os dados apresentados se baseiam nos clássicos estudos de Court Brown, Doll e Stewart.
