Resumo: | The results of a pilot study of primary chemotherapy for outpatient use of Cisplatin and Bleomycin in advanced head and neck cancer are discussed. After 2 cycles of chemotherapy patients were taken to radiotherapy. Of 46 patients initially treated with chemotherapy 34,7% had objective response with a median survival of 28 months, the median survival being 13 months for the non-responders (p = 0.0031). After radiotherapy the objective response was 63,6%, with a median survival of 28 months for responders and 8 months for non-responders (p = 0,027). It was concluded that epidermoid carcinomas of head and neck are sensitive to chemotherapy as primary treatment and prospective and randomized studies are needed. |
