Resumo: Understanding the impacts of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Rio 92) on the Brazilian environmental legislation demands a previous approach to the factors which have contributed to the appearance and consolidation of the Environmental Law in the international sphere and the conflicts of interests which define the course of the environmental matter currently. The building process of the Brazilian Environmental Law started in the beginning of the 70’s, when the United Nations Conference on Human Environment occurred. The evolution of the environmental principles and guidelines resulting from such event has initially contributed to establish the current features of the Environmental Law in Brazil and in the world.

O processo de formação do direito ambiental brasileiro fixa suas raízes, no entanto, no início da década de 70, quando da realização da Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre o Meio Ambiente Humano, em Estocolmo.
