Resumo: The Human Development Report for Mercosur - RDH-M (2009-2010) systematized a set of Qualitative and Quantitative Data on how young people perceive the educational and work world. The subjective elements - extracted from 295 interviews with youth leaders from the four countries that effectively comprised Mercosur in 2010 - make it possible to understand their perceptions of the world, their motivations, and perspectives. This is documentary research that gives centrality to the way in which RDH-M producers highlight young people's view of becoming, that is, their fears and hopes. The RDH-M writers demonstrate that positive expectations of job performance through increasing schooling are much more present among the wealthier youth. The poorest have many projects, expectations and hopes, however, seem to doubt, more intensely, whether the fulfillment of school cycles will, in fact, guarantee success in the world of work.

Os elementos subjetivos – extraídos de 295 entrevistas com lideranças juvenis dos quatro países que compunham, efetivamente, o Mercosul em 2010 - possibilitam compreender suas percepções de mundo, suas motivações e perspectivas. Esta é uma pesquisa documental que dá centralidade ao modo como os produtores do RDH-M destacam a visão dos (das) jovens sobre o devir, ou seja, seus medos e esperanças. Os elaboradores do RDH-M demonstram que as expectativas positivas de realização laboral através da escolarização crescente estão muito mais presentes entre os (as) jovens mais abastados.
