Prospective study on assistive technology in Brazil to outline the development of an accessible library

The construction of an Accessible Library is part of the context of struggles for the emancipation of people with disabilities, as one of the possible and imperative ways to achieve all their demands, given that the Library as a space for the democratization of knowledge, must provide instruments for ensure that everyone can experience the library environment without any setbacks or barriers of the most diverse nature. Along this path, the use of so-called assistive technologies can become strategic, fundamental and even innovative. Therefore, this study envisions mapping the production of Assistive Technology patents at a national level, with the aim of developing a technological prospection on the topic. The tool used was Patent Mapping whose nature of study was qualitative-quantitative and multidisciplinary. The International Questel Orbit Intelligence platform was defined as the database, which resulted in numerous challenges that were analyzed for the selection and adaptation of Assistive Technologies in the library context, such as the few existing patents on the issue, the decline in the number of deposits and publications from 2019 onwards, as well as the gap that exists when the treatment in question is linked to health.
