Resumo: The impact of contextual factors on the attribution of affect between a supervisor and an employee within a routine working situation are explored in the present article. Therefore, 465 students of Salvador and Madrid were asked to take the perspective of a supervisor or employee. The qualitative analysis of the results showed that both Brazilians and Spaniards attributed ambivalent (i.e., positive and negative) affects to both actors, regardless of their status and gender. In addition, Brazilians and Spaniards perceived the interactions as being warm and friendly, and therefore as a good relationship, they also felt that it was characterized by arrogance and dislike. Key words: attribution of affect, work stereotypes, work interactions, work status, gender in the workplace.
