Resumo: Wholesale markets develop generally in peripheral areas of Latin American cities, resulting from the resistance of small agricultural production against urbanization and the neoliberal rurality that mark the current phase of coloniality in the Latin American continent. In these areas, urban poverty and rural poverty form territorial nexus that enable the survival of these populations and their culture, within peripheral capitalism. The article aims to analyze the phenomenon of wholesale markets from the singular case of the “Feira do Produtor e Atacadista de Ceilândia”, in the city of Brasília-DF. Methodologically, we utilize the concept of territorial heritage and the theory of circuits of urban economy to review the empirical data, collected through semi-structured interviews and direct observation. We identified that the aforementioned fair constitutes a point of articulation for processes of resistance and reaffirmation of popular culture, providing work and consumption for part of the marginalized population in Brazil’s capital periphery.
