This article was developed based on the research carried out by the Rail Memory Project of Pernambuco. Based on maps, bibliographical references and digital sources, besides visits to the sites of the old railway stations built in Pernambuco between 1858 and 1963, these investigations made possible the understanding of the stations as the assets most representative in the railway heritage, among   other elements of  importance for the functioning of the railways. Understanding these buildings as memory spaces, central in the functioning of the lines and, consequently, in social relations, the objective of this paper is to make some contributions to the identification of the historical value of the railway stations in their relationship with the cities, based on their impacts on urbanization processes, pointing out their importance, current conservation situacion and its new uses as an alternative for its preservation.
