Resumo: | This article was developed based on the research carried out by the Rail Memory Project of Pernambuco. Based on maps, bibliographical references and digital sources, besides visits to the sites of the old railway stations built in Pernambuco between 1858 and 1963, these investigations made possible the understanding of the stations as the assets most representative in the railway heritage, among  other elements of  importance for the functioning of the railways. Understanding these buildings as memory spaces, central in the functioning of the lines and, consequently, in social relations, the objective of this paper is to make some contributions to the identification of the historical value of the railway stations in their relationship with the cities, based on their impacts on urbanization processes, pointing out their importance, current conservation situacion and its new uses as an alternative for its preservation. |

A partir de la consulta de mapas, referencias bibliográficas y fuentes digitales, además de visitas a los sitios de las antiguas estaciones de ferrocarril construidas en Pernambuco entre 1858 y 1963, estas investigaciones hicieron posible la comprensión de las estaciones como los activos más representativos del patrimonio ferroviario, entre otros elementos de importancia para el funcionamiento de los ferrocarriles. Entendiendo estos edificios como espacios de memorias, centrales en el funcionamiento de las líneas y, en consecuencia, en las relaciones sociales, el objetivo de este artículo es hacer algunas contribuciones para la identificación del valor histórico de las estaciones de ferrocarril en su relación con las ciudades, comenzando por sus impactos en los procesos de urbanización, señalando su importancia, la situación actual de conservación y sus nuevos usos como alternativa para su preservación.Este artigo foi desenvolvido com base nas pesquisas executadas por meio do Projeto Memória Ferroviária de Pernambuco a partir de 2008. Partindo da consulta a mapas, revisão bibliográfica, além de visitas aos locais das antigas estações ferroviárias construídas em Pernambuco entre 1858 e 1963, as referidas pesquisas possibilitaram a compreensão das estações como os mais representativos bens do patrimônio ferroviário, dentre outros elementos importantes para o funcionamento das linhas férreas.
