Railway heritage and historical GIS: beyond the stations

Resumo: The goal is to present a use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to document and analyze railway networks, taking as an example the case of Ribeirão Preto (SP). There are four railways of historical value related to coffee: Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro, Ramal Dumont, Ramal Santa Thereza and Estrada de Ferro São Paulo and Minas. Among them, the article deals with the Companhia Mogiana, specifically the Linha do Rio Grande and Ramal do Sertãozinho, inside the area of the former Núcleo Colonial Antônio Prado. The method is based on bibliographic, documentary and field research. The data were systematized in GIS, which served as a support to reconstitute the city's railway network over the years, based on cartographic, bibliographic, iconographic documentation and material remains. As a result, there is a spatialized database, referring to different scales and times, which enables the systemic understanding of the railway heritage. As a contribution, the article highlights the historical importance of other elements of the railway heritage, beyond the stations, bringing reflections on the criteria used in the preservation of the local cultural heritage. The same system can be used in other locations to form a historic-railroad GIS on a regional scale.

Hay cuatro ferrocarriles de valor histórico relacionados con el café: Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro, Ramal Dumont, Ramal Santa Thereza y Estrada de Ferro São Paulo y Minas. Entre ellos, el artículo trata sobre la Compañía Mogiana, específicamente la Línea Río Grande y el Ramal Sertãozinho, en el tramo interno del antiguo Núcleo Colonial Antônio Prado. El método se basa en investigaciones bibliográficas, documentales y de campo. Los datos fueron sistematizados en SIG, que sirvió de soporte para reconstituir la red ferroviaria de la ciudad a lo largo de los años, a partir de documentación cartográfica, bibliográfica, iconográfica y de trazas materiales. Como resultado, existe una base de datos espacializada, referida a diferentes escalas y tiempos, que permite la comprensión sistémica del patrimonio ferroviario. Como contribución, el artículo destaca la importancia histórica de otros elementos del patrimonio ferroviario, además de las estaciones, aportando reflexiones sobre los criterios empleados en las políticas de conservación de los bienes culturales del municipio. El mismo sistema se puede utilizar en otros lugares y formar un SIG histórico-ferroviario a escala regional.O objetivo é apresentar uma forma de uso de Sistemas de Informação Geográfica (SIG) para documentar e analisar redes ferroviárias, tomando como exemplo o caso de Ribeirão Preto (SP). Há quatro ferrovias de valor histórico relacionadas ao café: Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro, Ramal Dumont, Ramal Santa Thereza e Estrada de Ferro São Paulo e Minas. Dentre elas, o artigo trata da Companhia Mogiana, especificamente da Linha do Rio Grande e do Ramal do Sertãozinho, no trecho interno ao antigo Núcleo Colonial Antônio Prado. O método é baseado em pesquisas bibliográfica, documental e de campo. Os dados foram sistematizados em SIG, que serviu como suporte para reconstituir a rede ferroviária do município ao longo dos anos, a partir de documentação cartográfica, bibliográfica, iconográfica e de vestígios materiais. Como resultados, tem-se um banco de dados espacializados, referentes a diferentes escalas e tempos, que viabilizam a compreensão sistêmica do patrimônio ferroviário. Como contribuição, o artigo evidencia a importância histórica de outros elementos do patrimônio ferroviário, para além das estações, trazendo reflexões acerca dos critérios empregados nas políticas de preservação dos bens culturais do município.
