Proofs of competitions hardly take Portuguese language questions. For this reason the present work seeks to analyze which aspect of the language is evaluated by the candidate. For this, the chosen test was the Operational Soldier of the Fire Bri- gade of Brasí­lia, carried out by the Institute of Educational, Cultural and National Assis- tance - IDECAN. The work is structured in the reading of the text, presentation of the question and later comment. Throughout the research, we observe that, although the main object of the evaluation is the interpretation of written texts of a literary nature, it is not what is expected of the evaluated professional, resulting in a lack of pragmatism in the exam.
