Resumo: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of sexual stereotypes in children's play. The subjects were 28 children, 9 to 10 years of age, og both sexes, and of uppermiddle class. These children were asked aboutwhat were the toys with which they would fike to play most of then, they were asked if a child could play with an opposite-sex-stereotyped toy. Content analysis of the data showed difference in the preference for toys. There was no differences regarding the permission to play with opposite-sexstereotyped toys. These results demonstrated the need for reducing sexual stereotypes so that children may choose their toys freefy and benefit as much as possible from them.

These results demonstrated the need for reducing sexual stereotypes so that children may choose their toys freefy and benefit as much as possible from them.Buscou-se verificar a influência dos estereótipos sexuais nos brinquedos das crianças, considerando-se dois aspectos: 1) preferência por determinados brinquedos; e 2) permissão que as crianças concediam ou não para outra criança brincar com um brinquedo estereotipado para o sexo oposto. 14 meninas e 14 meninos, de 9 a 10 anos de idade, de nível socioeconômico médio-alto, responderam a uma entrevista semiestruturada, oral e individual. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos a uma análise de conteúdo, que revelou diferenças sexuais entre meninos e meninas quanto à preferência por brinquedos. Não houve diferenças quanto à permissão dada para as crianças brincarem com brinquedos estereotipados para o sexo oposto.
