Resumo: The aim of this article is to rescue skolé sense of school as presented by Masschelein and Simons. We will see that this is not a nostalgic claim, but an attempt to restore a potentiality at the origin of the idea of school – something that has been forgotten: school as free time. The Belgian authors highlight the power to suspend productivetime. The school would be a place of suspension, but it gives time to study; space for it; constitutes itself with its own materiality and procedures. Masschelein and Simonsdebate mainly with Rancière and Arendt to open this field of thought about what the school would be, in addition they dialogue with other contemporary thinkers such as Giorgio Agamben. For Masschelein and Simons, the world of productivity seeks purpose in every action; the school world, in turn, is a world of possibilities; society, culture, the world of work are suspended. This discussion leads us to take free time as a key concept that would reframe the potential of the school, giving it its original character of expropriation, profanation, and opportunity to renew the world.
