TRAJECTORIES OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS IN UBERLÂNDIA: CROSSINGS OF GENDER, CLASS AND ELECTION POLITICAL

Based on semi-structured interviews with eight principals of municipal elementary schools, we developed a discussion about the influence of gender issues and local political parties on school management in the city of Uberlândia (MG). The interviews are the product of a field research that supported a master’s dissertation defended in 2018, in the Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Sociais at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, on the professional profile of principals. The methodology used for processing information from interviews and socioeconomic questionnaires was Analysis by Laurence Bardin. As a theoretical framework to discuss work and gender issues, we used the Social Relations of Sex resulting from the Sexual Division of Labor, anchored in the studies of Helena Hirata and Danièle Kergoat. We also verified a tension related to the continuity in the management position on the part of the interviewees, directly conditioned to the results of the imminent electoral process in the municipality. In this regard, we resumed the research to discuss the political implications in school management in observation of current legislation and the historical rancidity of party-political interference that has not yet been overcome in Brazilian education. We expanded the scope of the analysis on the configuration of school management at the local level in the IV Seminário do Grupo de Pesquisa Educação de Mulheres nos séculos XIX e XX and II Encontro do Grupo de Pesquisa Arquivos Pessoais, Patrimônio e Educação, both promoted by the Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro, in March 2023, and it is possible to verify the publication of the summary in the Annals of the event. In this text has the conclusion that trajectory of studies on school management in the municipal teaching network of the city of Uberlândia (MG).
