Grammatical Aspect Marking in Linking Verbs: a morphological analysis

This article aims to present a morphological analysis of linking verbs (VL) to verify the aspectual marking in this verbal typology. The text takes as sample the Brazilian Portuguese linking verbs ser (to be), estar (to be), continuar (to continue), virar (to become), andar (to have been), ficar (to get/to become), parecer (to seem), permanecer (to remain), viver (to always be), tornar-se (to become) e encontrar-se (to find oneself). Continuing the investigation for the construction of the syntactic nature of VL, this study presents a morphemic analysis through the presentation of morphological charts and analysis of the grammatical aspect of VL. The methodological approach consisted of bibliographic research, as well as morphemic analysis of the roots and the mood, tense, and aspect inflection. The results showed that the VL may have semantic content, even in analyses focusing only on the grammatical aspect.
