Indomitable women, bodies to domesticate: The witch’s cinematic horror

Resumo: | In the Middle Ages, the body of the witch was imagined as a source of terror and the sign of an incontrollable feminine, always monstrous and in contact with a frightening exteriority. In films, witches have consistently played that role, joining a gallery of other common monsters, such as vampires, ghosts, and zombies. However, the aim of this work is to analyze some recent films that represent the witch also as a power for freedom and creation, depicting the feminine as a limit-condition always open to change and novelty. |

However, the aim of this work is to analyze some recent films that represent the witch also as a power for freedom and creation, depicting the feminine as a limit-condition always open to change and novelty.En la Edad Media, el cuerpo de la bruja fue imaginado como fuente de terror y signo de un femenino incontrolable, monstruoso y siempre en contacto con una exterioridad asustadora. En el cine, las brujas jugaran con frecuencia tal papel, como parte de una galería de otros monstros comunes, como los vampiros, los fantasmas y zombies. El objetivo de este trabajo es, todavía, analizar un conjunto de filmes recientes en los cuales la figura de la bruja emerge también como una potencia de liberación y creación, haciendo del femenino una condición-límite siempre abierta al cambio y al nuevo.Na Idade Média, o corpo da bruxa foi imaginado como fonte de terror e signo de um feminino incontrolável, monstruoso e sempre em contato com uma exterioridade assustadora. No cinema, as bruxas cumpriram frequentemente tal papel, fazendo parte de uma galeria de outros monstros comuns, como os vampiros, os fantasmas e os zumbis.
