The wikipedist community in Portuguese language: A social Portrait

Twenty years later, Wikipedia continues to be a notable case of resistance in communication and information, from science or politics to more contingent issues, often with lower levels of disinformation than large information media thanks to constant updating and community surveillance. However, little is known about the volunteers who produce this digital encyclopedia. This intriguing “invisibility” gave rise to this study, which aimed to reveal the community of wikipedians in Portuguese: where are they from? What are you doing? What are the ages and degrees of education? What are the motivations and constraints felt in this socio-technical process? Among other data collected to characterize the profile of this community, this study reveals the existence of low rates of participation by women and African Portuguese-speaking peoples in this collective effort.
