Resumo: The aim of this work is to analyze the beliefs about Portuguese as an international language from the perspective of participants within a context of an intensive Portuguese course to the Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G) candidates. We use theoretical reflections about beliefs present in studies on linguistic policy written by Schiffman (1996, 2006), Spolsky (2004, 2009, 2012) and Shohamy (2006). The research is part of a qualitative-interpretative paradigm (FLICK, 2004; LIN, 2015). Data generation was made through semi structured interviews. Based on an analysis of thematic content, lexical selection and linguistic elements which point to the textual argumentative orientation, we identified that the Portuguese language has different valuations for research participants. It is considered less important when the fundamental role of the English language in the world and more important when the relevance of Portuguese in specific contexts is highlighted.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2022-09-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronica/article/view/4122510.15448/1984-4301.2022.1.41225Letrônica; Vol. 15 No. 1 (2022): Single volume; e41225Letrônica; v. 15 n. 1 (2022): Volume Único; e412251984-430110.15448/1984-4301.2022.1reponame:letrônicainstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUC_RSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronica/article/view/41225/27673Copyright (c) 2022 Letrônicahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessDionísio, Cynthia Israelly BarbalhoSousa, Socorro Cláudia Tavares de2022-12-20T12:38:06Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/41225Revistahttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronicaPRIhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronica/oailetronica@pucrs.br||ivanetemileski@gmail.com1984-43011984-4301opendoar:2022-12-20T12:38:06letrônica - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
