Resumo: In this article, we propose to address, in a timely manner, the following approach: how to speak of the ‘other’ as ‘other’ today? That done, we analyzed a possible poetics of the encounter of cultures, as well as suggested an interpretation of the map of foreignness in Milton Hatoum’s novel Report de um orient (1989). After focusing on these aspects, we make brief considerations about this narrative by the Amazonian author, trying to rehearse, test and re-point new readings of “a certain orient” that dialogically can be glimpsed in the semantic errand proposed by the pronouns for what, when, where, how and why talk about the representation of foreignness in the contemporary scene.

Feito isso, analisamos uma possível poética do encontro de culturas, bem como sugerimos uma interpretação do mapa da estrangeiridade no romance Relato de um certo oriente (1989), de Milton Hatoum.
