Moral development in childhood education: A cultural constructivist study

Resumo: Based on a cultural constructivist psychological approach, the present study aims at identifying and analyzing the affective quality, cultural messages, processes, and strategies found in teacher-child interactions that could be meaningful for moral development. The investigation was carried out in a public early education school, in Brasília. A third period teacher and her 16 students took part in the investigation. The qualitative methodology consisted of microgenetic analysis of teacher-children interactions, and of interpretative analysis of teacher’s discourse. Results show how urgently educators need to learn about and reflect upon moral issues, as well as becoming aware of their own interactions with children. The study suggests the need to promote discussions about constructive evaluations of daily educational practices, and to prepare educators to foster moral development and education. Further investigation about the topic will be welcome.

Further investigation about the topic will be welcome.El presente estudio se fundamentó teórica y metodológicamente en una perspectiva cultural constructivista y tuvo como objetivo identificar y analizar la calidad afectiva, los mensajes culturales, y los procesos y estrategias presentes en las interacciones profesora-alumnos, posiblemente significativos para el desarrollo moral de los niños. Participaron en la investigación una profesora y 16 alumnos del 3er. periodo de una institución pública de Educación Infantil, localizada en Brasilia-DF. La metodología cualitativa usada consistió en el análisis microgenético de las interacciones sociales profesora-alumnos, y en el análisis del discurso de la profesora. El estudio apuntó la importancia del aprendizaje y reflexión de los educadores sobre cuestiones morales, y la necesidad de dar mayor atención a sus interacciones con los niños. También resaltó la necesidad de crear espacios para la evaluación constructiva de la práctica pedagógica, y para la formación de los educadores sobre desarrollo y educación moral, siendo necesarios nuevos trabajos investigativos sobre el tema.O presente estudo fundamentou-se, teórica e metodologicamente, na perspectiva da psicologia cultural construtivista. Teve como objetivo identificar e analisar a qualidade afetiva, mensagens culturais e os processos e estratégias presentes nas interações professora-crianças, possivelmente significativos para o desenvolvimento moral dos alunos. Participaram da pesquisa uma professora e 16 alunos do terceiro período de uma instituição pública de educação infantil situada em Brasíli, Distrito Federal. A análise microgenética das interações sociais professora-crianças e a análise interpretativa do discurso da professora fizeram parte da metodologia qualitativa utilizada. O estudo aponta para a importância da aprendizagem e da reflexão do educador sobre questões morais, bem como da sua atenção às interações que estabelecem com as crianças.
