Resumo:  This paper aims to provide an analysis about the use of the Cuban literacy method Yes, I can, in a settlement of the Brazilian Landlees Movement. The data are analyzed based on the new literacy studies that have been contributing to a redefinition of the concept of literacy. The ethnographic methodology is inspired by the new literacy studies (NLS). In addressing the "Yes I can", focusing on the role of teacher, we conclude that his mediation evidences a literacy practice based on NLS. Literacy as social practice, although not covered in the Yes I can method, could be realized in the fact that thought the teacher`s mediation, the students perceived writing as a social and cultural subject.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2013-10-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/faced/article/view/15535Educação; Vol. 36 No. 3 (2013); 352-362Educação; Vol. 36 Núm. 3 (2013); 352-362Educação; v. 36 n. 3 (2013); 352-3621981-25820101-465Xreponame:Educaçãoinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUC_RSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/faced/article/view/15535/10223Nunes Macedo, Maria do Socorro AlencarFilho, Ageu Mazilhãoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2013-12-10T16:51:17Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/15535Revistahttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/faced/indexONGhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/faced/oaieditora.periodicos@pucrs.br||reveduc@pucrs.br1981-25820101-465Xopendoar:2013-12-10T16:51:17Educação - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
