Resumo: | This paper aims to provide an analysis about the use of the Cuban literacy method Yes, I can, in a settlement of the Brazilian Landlees Movement. The data are analyzed based on the new literacy studies that have been contributing to a redefinition of the concept of literacy. The ethnographic methodology is inspired by the new literacy studies (NLS). In addressing the "Yes I can", focusing on the role of teacher, we conclude that his mediation evidences a literacy practice based on NLS. Literacy as social practice, although not covered in the Yes I can method, could be realized in the fact that thought the teacher`s mediation, the students perceived writing as a social and cultural subject. |

Este texto visa apresentar uma análise acerca do uso do método Yo, sí puedo de alfabetização num assentamento do MST. Os dados são analisados com base nos novos estudos sobre letramento que vêm contribuir para uma ressignificação do conceito de alfabetização. A metodologia é de natureza etnográfica, inspirada nos novos estudos sobre letramento. Ao tratarmos do "Sim, eu posso", com foco na atuação do monitor da turma, concluímos que a sua mediação aponta uma prática de alfabetização a partir do que os novos estudos sobre letramento indicam sobre a escrita.
