EJA in contexts of deprivation of freedom: challenges and gaps to popular education

Resumo: This essay discusses the Education of Youth and Adults in deprivation of liberty from the perspective of popular education. It presents statistical data on the Brazilian prison system, reflections on the role of the school and the relevance of the dialogue between school and non-school education in places of deprivation of liberty. It suggests gaps and possibilities for education in these spaces, from three dimensions: the articulation between the proposed educational practices; the flexible curricular organization and the interdisciplinary work as a methodological proposal and the valorization of teaching work, with the indication that, precisely, from the limit situations, it is possible to enhance the political dimension of social practices linked to education in prisons.
