Sigrid Pôrto de Barros: An intelectual mediator in the museum field

Resumo: This work presents evidences of the Sigrid Pôrto de Barros trajectory in the museum field as a museum conservator. It is centered in the 1950s, when she became a National Historical Museum's employee, until the 1970s, time when she was head of Research and Pedagogical Museographic Assistance Section of the Museum's Educational and Cultural Activities Division. Although she is a professional with little recognition in the field's historiography, her performance evidences a career that faced towards the consolidation of the museums educative role, with emphasis in receiving school children public through implementation strategies in museums of Active School principles. For this investigation there were analyzes of reports, the professional's writing and other sources that assist the comprehension of Museum Education debates back in that time. The concept of intellectual mediator (GOMES; HANSEN, 2016) bases the argumentative construction in this research. The analysis shows that professionals of the museum field, expressively composed by women in Brazil, were up to date in debates about education and its possible links to museums, and that their actions legitimized those institutions as a learning space, which now is considered to be an expressive mark in the role of contemporary museums.

El trabajo analiza evidencias de la trayectoria de una conservadora museística, Sigrid Pôrto de Barros, en el ámbito de los museos brasileños. Se enfoca en la década de 1950, cuando se incorporó al Museo Histórico Nacional, hasta la década de 1970, cuando fue jefa de la Sección de Investigación y Asistencia Pedagógico-Museográfica de la División de Actividades Educativas y Culturales del Museo. Aunque es una profesional poco reconocida en el campo de la historiografía, su trabajo muestra una trayectoria enfocada a consolidar la función educativa de los museos, con énfasis en la atención al público escolar infantil a través de estrategias de implementación de los principios de la Escola Ativa. Para la investigación se analizaron informes, escritos del profesional y otras fuentes que favorezcan la comprensión de cómo se discutió la educación en los museos durante el período. El concepto de intelectual mediador (GOMES; HANSEN, 2016) apoya la construcción argumentativa de la investigación. El análisis revela que los profesionales del campo de los museos, una parte expresiva compuesta por mujeres en Brasil, estaban al día con los debates sobre la educación y sus posibles articulaciones con los museos, y que sus acciones legitimaron estas instituciones como espacios de aprendizaje, una función que se ha convertido en una marca. papel expresivo en el papel contemporáneo de los museos. Centra-se na década de 1950, quando se tornou funcionária do Museu Histórico Nacional, até a década de 1970, momento em que foi chefe da Seção de Pesquisa e Assistência Pedagógico-Museográfica da Divisão de Atividades Educacionais e Culturais do Museu. Embora seja uma profissional pouco reconhecida na historiografia do campo, sua atuação evidencia uma carreira voltada para a consolidação da função educativa dos museus, com ênfase no atendimento do público escolar infantil por meio de estratégias de execução nos museus dos princípios da Escola Ativa. Para a investigação foram analisados relatórios, escritos da profissional e outras fontes que favoreçam a compreensão de como a educação em museus era debatida no período. O conceito de intelectual mediador (GOMES; HANSEN, 2016) embasa a construção argumentativa da pesquisa.
