The technological advancement and popularization of the internet have brought a host of benefits, but also significant challenges in the legal and social realms. This article delves into the intricate intersection between Human Rights and hate crimes committed in the virtual environment, especially within the Brazilian context. We address the constitutional principles governing online freedom of expression and how they clash with the rising cases of hate speech, discrimination, and prejudice on the web. We also analyze current legislation and judicial decisions related to internet hate crimes, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that protects individual rights without stifling freedom of expression. The role of online platforms in content moderation and educational strategies to shape aware digital citizens are discussed as potential solutions to this dilemma. We conclude by emphasizing the importance of a multidisciplinar and collaborative approach, involving lawmakers, jurists, educators, and Society at large, to ensure a safe, inclusive, and respectful online environment for all.
