Resumo: | Aims: To present a clinical report emphasizing the therapeutic approach done by a dentist with the purpose of improving the quality of life of patients with Sjögren’s Syndrome. Case description: Female patient with Sjögren’s Syndrome referred for prosthetic rehabilitation, presented with drying of the face, eyes, lips and of all the buccal mucosa. She complained of difficulty of speaking, chewing and swallowing. The buccal adequacy was carried through and related instructions to the alimentary diet were given. For rehabilitation of the type Class III of Kennedy edentulous space, a conventional partial removable prosthesis with extra coronary retainers was placed. Fluorine in form of daily mouth washing and a moisturizing oral gel two times a day were prescribed. A program of follow-up was delineated in order that the patient could successfully keep buccal health. Conclusions: Sjögren’s Syndrome comprises abnormalities in several aspects of the body, including the saliva, which plays important roles in the physiology and biology of the human being. Therefore, the interdisciplinary management, with involvement of the surgeon dentist, is of extreme importance for the therapeutic success of this disease. Descrição do caso: Paciente feminina com Síndrome de Sjögren encaminhada para reabilitação protética apresentava ressecamento da face, olhos, lábios e toda a mucosa bucal. Queixava-se de dificuldade para falar, mastigar e engolir. Foi realizada a adequação bucal e foram dadas instruções relacionadas à dieta alimentar. Para a reabilitação do espaço edentado tipo Classe III de Kennedy, optou-se por uma prótese parcial removível convencional com retentores extracoronários. Foi prescrito flúor em forma de bochecho diário e gel oral umidificador, duas vezes ao dia. Foi delineado um programa de acompanhamento e manutenção para que a paciente pudesse manter, com sucesso, a saúde bucal estabelecida. Conclusões: A Síndrome de Sjögren compreende anormalidades em diversos setores do organismo, incluindo a saliva, que desempenha importante papel na fisiologia e biologia do ser humano. Portanto, a interdisciplinaridade, com envolvimento do cirurgião dentista, é de extrema importância para o sucesso terapêutico desta doença.
