The present work has as general objective to understand, from the fiction book American Gods to what extent the Internet and social media may have become the reconfiguration of deities of the past, relating textual elements, signs, symbols that characterize the deities of American Gods in contemporary virtual practices. What justifies this study are revisited research that pointed to the need to rethink how networks operate and how they resemble deities sleeping in the unconscious. The project begins with the theoretical approach and review of previous studies related to the proposed theme, focused on delimiting themes related to social media, the internet and the effect on people's behavior, having the last 10 years as a time limit. Followed by the presentation of the author of the work and its summary for the reader. Next, based on the initial theoretical studies, we will present the possible ways of reclassifying the deities in the concepts of analogy, equality and similarity. In our final chapter, we will make the relationship between gods and social media
