Resumo: | The present research had the objective of investigating the perspective of young students of a public school in the periphery of São Paulo on high school. The purpose of this study is not only to describe the deficiencies of the secondary school offered in the public school, but to develop some ideas that may contribute to the debate about the improvement of secondary education, from the perspective of young students from the periphery of São Paulo. In this way we seek to identify from the written discourse of 50 students aged 16 to 20 years enrolled in the 3rd year of high school to their expectations and experiences with school and high school. The students who voluntarily participated in the research study at the same school located in the far east of the city of São Paulo, 40 students in the morning and 10 students in the night. In the speeches of the students it was evident to critics of these young students to the current model of education that stimulates more competition than the cooperation between the students. They claim a more humane teaching system geared towards students and their needs and potentialities, and not just a note-based teaching system. About the content of high school the young students consider outdated, repetitive and unrelated to their real needs. For these young students the ideal school would be the one that stimulated the dialogue and the cooperation of all respecting their potentialities and limitations of learning. The college and the dreamed high school diploma is one of the life goals of 70% young people who participated in this study who said they will achieve after finishing high school. The school is still considered by these young students from the periphery as the door to a better future |

A proposta deste estudo é desenvolver algumas ideias que possam contribuir para o debate sobre a melhoria do Ensino Médio, a partir da perspectiva dos jovens estudantes da periferia de São Paulo. Dessa forma, buscamos identificar, a partir do discurso escrito de 50 estudantes matriculados no 3º ano do Ensino Médio, suas expectativas e experiências com a escola e com este nível de ensino. Os estudantes, que participaram da pesquisa, estudavam na mesma escola, localizada no extremo leste da cidade de São Paulo, sendo 40 estudantes do período matutino e 10 estudantes do período noturno. Nas falas dos estudantes ficaram evidentes as críticas desses jovens estudantes ao modelo atual de ensino, que estimula mais a competição do que a cooperação. Eles reivindicam um sistema de ensino mais humano, voltado para os estudantes, suas necessidades e suas potencialidades e não apenas um sistema de ensino baseado em notas. Sobre o conteúdo do Ensino Médio, os jovens estudantes o consideram desatualizado, repetitivo e sem relação com suas reais necessidades. Para estes jovens estudantes, a escola ideal seria aquela que estimulasse o diálogo e a cooperação entre todos, respeitando suas potencialidades e limitações de aprendizado. A faculdade e o tão sonhado diploma de nível superior são algumas das metas de vida de 70% dos jovens que participaram deste estudo.
