This study is an experience report, using an inductive methodology based on the researcher's experience, throughout direct and intensive observation of changes in the emotional development and learning difficulties of an 8-year-old student from an elementary school in Sao Paulo city. Such observations were supported by the Winnicotian theory of maturation, with the objective of understanding the holding function performed by the teacher, when it is no longer performed by the mother. At the end of the academic periods that this student was under the care of this researcher, the importance of the mother's role on the baby's emotional maturation process was observed, and of her intrinsic relationship with learning, because, when fulfilling her maternal functions, she guarantees a healthy adult life for this baby, allowing him to deal with anguish and disappointments, creating and comprehending external reality and positioning himself in an adequate way in the world. On the other hand, the educator, through a differentiated look, and attentive listening to the needs of children who share this same profile, can fill the gap of a part lived in its primitive stage, significantly rebuilding their self-confidence, favoring their relationship with others each other and with the world
