A produção sobre controle aversivo no Brasil com base em publicações

In behavior analysis the domain of aversive control is revealed to be controversial, either regarding the modalities to be included in the topic, either, more specifically, regarding the definition of punishment, one of the most classical modalities addressed under this label. This research aimed to characterize the study of aversive control in Brazil based on published articles on national journals, including, in this characterization, the definition of punishment used in these articles. The articles were selected through 16 search words, in 13 different journals, and it were used exclusion criteria related to the articles initially found. Based on the reading of these works, it were identified, and registered on a spread sheet, informations about a set of variables, according to the categories established for each one of them. It was found 61 articles, published between 1975 and 2014. There is a great diversity of authors of the articles and home institution of these authors, however, few of the published more than two articles. The type of article most found was research report, followed by essay/revision/discussion, wherein in the research reports the basic research predominated. The number of studies that used human participants is very similar to the ones which used non-human subjects, wherein in this last case, almost all of it used rats; the aversive stimuli that predominated was electric shock. In a small part of the articles it were cited byproducts of aversive control, being the most cited: emotional responses, escape and conditioned punishers. The most studied modality of aversive control was punishment; however, only in nine of 61 articles (being six of 26 which specifically addressed punishment) it was mentioned, at least, one definition of punishment. It was found a very similar number of procedural and process definitions; five of nine procedural definitions had as cited author Skinner; from eight procedural and process definitions, four of it had as cited author Catania and three other, Azrin & Holz. The absence of the presentation of definition of punishment in most of the works about aversive control in this research confirm the results found in other works
