This study examines the role of the Academy of the Civil Police of São Paulo in teaching particularly the discipline of Human Rights and investigates the impact of the education project and its curriculum in the real action of the Civil Police of São Paulo. The study starts from a concept of policing based on the principles of Human Rights, which identifies human dignity as a basic principle of police activity. Following develops an analysis of instruments of protection of Human Dignity and Human Rights, especially those that focus on law enforcement, as well as are explained to the police and contemporary policies in the public safety area, identified as necessary for the institution. The survey reflects also the trajectory of the Civil Police of São Paulo, over the time, making it possible to characterize historically the police education, highlighting the importance of the training at the Academy of the Civil Police of São Paulo. This study, besides presenting challenging ideas, outlines perspectives to be taken over by the Civil Police in the coming years in order to propose actions that will culminate in the protection of human dignity, and respect for human rights in a shared process of strengthening the democratic State, mediated by the police action
